FAQ

  • Will the FaceCradle strap pose any danger in transit?
Good question! This is our most common one! FaceCradle has a built in safety release in the strap. It is designed to open with just the slightest amount of pressure on your neck but the pillow will not fall away from supporting you when asleep. During an airline flight or road trip, remember your seatbelt holds you in your seat and therefore stops any excessive force against the strap or pillow. During extreme force, the strap is also designed to release from the buckles. Also remember the strap is not used in all modes.
  • Will the strap cover the TV of the person behind?
Short answer: No! Detail: On long haul flights most airlines fit their seats with adjustable headrests and in the rear is the screen for the in-flight entertainment. The strap is looped under either side of the winged headrest and comes out at the top of the headrest. It does not loop around the entire headrest so it does not cover the screen. For short haul flights, some airlines will have these winged adjustable headrests but some wont. Usually where they don't, it is a budget airline so typically they don't have in flight entertainment either. Rarely you might find a configuration without adjustable winged headrests but with a screen. It is almost always a short haul flight. Remember the strap is connected only for the lean forward modes where you want to sleep for an extended period of time, usually not the case on a short haul flight.
  • Will people look at me strangely in the face forward position?
This question makes us grin. Think about how someone would have looked wearing a regular neck pillow back in 1941 when they were invented! How long will it take before someone realizes, as they did with the neck pillow, that it is a sleeping device? We suggest you should think more about how you look when you arrive. Tired and wrecked or slept and ready to go? In reality, this position is used at 30,000 feet in a dark cabin, or you are wearing an eye mask. Honestly, noone cares how you look and nor should it matter to you or someone looking at you. Both are smart enough to figure out this product works and enables you to get your head off the upright angle more toward, or at a horizontal angle, like the way you sleep each night. Remember:- Sleep in transit is vital to your health and wellbeing. Sleep means you are more alert and less likely to suffer an accident. It also boosts your immunity to disease and virus's. Don't let looks decieve you.
  • Is this FaceCradle permitted on airlines?
Yes, all airlines permit the use of FaceCradle, so you can take it on board and through security with no problem. FaceCradle is not classified as dangerous goods. Afterall, it is made from memory foam! You are probably thinking the strap, when it is attached to the FaceCradle, will strangle or trip someone. No it won't it has a safety release system built in. - see "will the strap pose any danger in transit?". A FaceCradle or its strap, have never been known to damage a headrest. The weight or force on the strap, and therefore the headrest, is not enough. Remember the vast majority of your body weight is held by the seat base. Two airlines only, Qantas and their budget airline Jetstar ban the attachment of products to their seats. We are informed this ban was put in place due to a blocking device that stopped the passenger in front from reclining and because of attachments to hold your legs up that could potentially block the walking path of passengers. We don't believe FaceCradle was considered in this decision. In this case, the permission to use the strap attached to the seat is at the discretion of the flight attendant. Remember not all modes need the strap so you can use your FaceCradle without it. We suggest if you are asked to remove your strap, politely show the flight attendant the safety release and explain it is a device that enhances the flight experience by gaining you extended hours of sleep. Just as safety is important, so too is sleep for your health and wellbeing while you travel. If they still insist to not use the strap, we strongly advise not to argue and do as instructed. Maybe next time, don't fly Qantas or Jetstar if they also don't care about your comfort and sleep.
  • Why is FaceCradle so superior to other travel pillows?
FaceCradle is so superior it is better compared to a business class sleeper seat. These seats are mechanical devices designed to provide a horizontal sleeping position that supports your head and body similiarly to the way you sleep in your bed each night. Business class sleepers also allow you many more comfort positions compared to sitting upright but remember, you have to pay thousands for them, every time you travel! When you are in an economy seat no longer do you have to try to sleep with your head and body upright and unsupported. You can tilt your head and body to the side and attach the FaceCradle strap to the armrest of the seat or you can attach it to the winged headrest and lean forward. You can adjust and configure your FaceCradle to hold you where you feel most comfortable and to support you with your head off the upright angle. This makes a huge difference to your ability to sleep. But if you insist on comparing what it is made of, again there is no comparison. FaceCradle has 21 components including two hypoallerginic memory foam pillows not one, each with covers, zips, internal frames made of fibreglass reinforced nylon like a fishing rod and extension arms. It has hinges, springs, pins and a safety harness. A neck pillow, has two components - a cover and some cheap stuffing. You get what you pay for! FaceCradle provides you with an Upgrade to Sleeping Class, you buy just once.
  • I'm a large person, will FaceCradle hold my weight?"
FaceCradle will hold the weight of the heaviest person. The majority of your body weight is held by the seat. You lean into your FaceCradle so it really just stopping you falling forward. The pressure applied to your face in the Deep Sleep (forward) position is minimal and feels very similar to laying face down on a massage table.
  • Will FaceCradle fit all adults and children.
Yes! All FaceCradle models will work perfectly well with adults or children over 5 years old. There is just one minor suggestion we make for shorter people or small children if you want to attach the strap to the winged headrest and lean forward. Have the strap come at underneath the headrest, not over the top. Please see the answer for "Will the strap cover the TV of the person behind?" The video there shows the strap coming out at the top of the headrest. Simply flip the attachment method for smaller people so it comes out underneath. This will provide a better support angle. FaceCradle it is not recommended for infants.
  • What is the different between the models.
Please scroll through the images on the product pages to see the differences but essentially the Original was released in 2016, Wanderlust in 2017 and Wanderlust II in 2020. Wanderlust is 35% smaller and lighter than Original without compromising any support or comfort. We overcame those issues with advanced design and construction. We recommend Original if you prefer a bigger cosier pillow or either Wanderlusts due to their improved shape and convenience. Wanderlust II has two fabrics. The external in brushed velour the same as all other models with the internal made from high tech breathable material. This is great for people who find a scarf too hot against their skin. It also comes with our 3D eye mask to block out the light, a very convenient carry bag to keep your FaceCradle clean and a set of ear plugs to cancel noise.
  • My FaceCradle has a chemical smell, what can I do?"
Your FaceCradle contains some plastic, non toxic parts. In most circumstances the odor will dispers during the manufacturing process however it can be trapped inside the plastic protective shipping bag, when packed. Once the bag is opened, all odor should disperse within 2-3 days. If you have very sensitive smell, you can remove both covers and wash them under the instructions inside the covers. FaceCradle is not made any differently to regular memory foam neck pillows when it comes to smell.
  • I have lost my safety harness, what can I do?"
You an purchase a replacement one here under Supplements and Accessories
  • The harness clip has become jammed in the clip. How can I release it?
This happens by misalignment of the clip when inserting. Make sure you connect both left and right legs of the clip evenly and push the clip in straight. This will avoid future jamming. To release is simple, with a flat screwdriver. Please see this video.
  • Why is Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) important for sleep?
Electronic noise cancelling listens to white noise like the humming of an engine or the gushing of wind against the cabin. It then electronically transmits a sound wave that cancels out that white noise. This means your environment becomes much quieter and closer to the way you sleep each night. It also means your music or movie audio volume, doesnt have to be turned up to overcome that noise. Active Noise Cancelling function is considered a must by frequent travellers and the difference between headphones with or without ANC are not often understood by people considering to buy headphone equipment. But ANC is not just for travellers. Listen to your environment now. You can probably hear computer fans whirring, refrigerators running or generally a lot of noise in the background. These noises can all be wiped out, with ANC. ANC is another contributing factor, on how we provide an Upgrade to Sleeping Class.
  • How are Sleeping Class Eye Masks different?
It is not hard to understand that blocking light is important to getting to sleep and staying asleep. This applies to your bedroom each night but more importantly when you travel because there are so many other disturbances. We cant stress enough that it is not just one thing that brings you better sleep in transit. It is a combination of doing a few things and blocking out light is an important one. When you fly for example, the person sitting next to you can put on their reading light or the flashing of their cellphone, tablet or entertainment screen can disturb you. If you are travelling during the day, it is even worse when someone opens their window or the cabin crew turn on the lights. So it is really important to block out 100% of the light. This is what our eye masks do. But it is also important that you don't have unusual pressure on your eyes and eye lids. It is common to get this from the standard airline issued eye masks because they have basic thin straps that pull the eye mask in tight. Our eye masks come with a convex shape that allows you to freely move and blink your eyes without feeling the slightest touch from your eye mask. The face hugging attributes makes them very comfortable but importantly it means they provide superior light blocking. Our Dreamlight Ease eye mask is the ultimate. They are similar to FaceCradle where one try of it immediately convinces you about how good they are. During the design of Dreamlight Ease, facial mapping was conducted on thousands of people to find the ultimate fit and light blocking function.
